Network Specialist
The Computer Industry has always gripped my imagination... ever since my Dad came home with this odd shaped metal container that came with a funny TV screen! DOS was the name and “Prince of Persia”, “California Games” and “Hangman” was the game!
As you know DOS is a wonderful base to start, so diverse compared to the Nintendo 8-bit games, but wait what’s this... Windows 95! “What’s that?” I hear you say! Well if you’re not in the know... it’s the future, no more command lines... GUI all the way and look a cool like mouse that doesn’t need to be fed!
After my introduction to the Internet there has been no going back! From editing and creating personalised menu scripts, to improve Relay Chat programs like mIRC, batch scripts to customise logins.
Needless to say this was sparked my interest in the programming\development field.
Attending High School away from home, is when I became aware of the “networking” component of the computer world. (And yes, obviously Network Games started this interest)
Although at High school I never did any computer studies, I did stay abreast in what’s happening in the IT sector.
Entering into my senior years at High School with a subject package of Maths, Technical Drawing and Art, my focus was in the design and architecture. After matriculating I found myself at a crossroads and because of my indecision on which field to take, I decided it would be a good opportunity to improve my computer skills!
So off I went to study a certificate in PC Engineering... where I decided to further my studies in a Programming Diploma continuing into a Networking Diploma. During this time I helped out with evening IPC classes running at the Varsity.
After Completing my studies, it was into the big world, and low and behold I got a phone call from the Varsity asking me if I was interested in becoming their network administrator’s assistant. I jumped at the opportunity to improve my practical knowledge and gain some work experience.
That year the Varsity branched into two separate campuses and began a dynamic change throughout the IT infrastructure. After my first year I was promoted to Network Administrator becoming the youngest Network Administrator in the entire group. Obviously there was no stopping, becoming active in the roll outs of expansive documentations and system setups where my wealth of experience was nurtured for 2 more years, at which point I had out grown what the Varsity could offer me.
It was at this time that AAT Offered me a wonderful opportunity to join their dynamic family; I could not refuse the offer which gave birth to my childhood dream to be working alongside developers and a diverse networking environment.
The rest is history. Being self motivated and having a zest for both self and business improvement, I will bring AAT into the future!
Andrew has been with AAT since December 2007.
