Barrett Oliver
Favourite Pastime
Myself and a grand piano
Favourite Movie
Don’t really have a particular one. But if I had to choose one, I’d say Transformers. Purely because it was the most enjoyable movie to date (barring Iron Man) and because it reminds me of my car.
Favourite Destination
Haven’t really been on a holiday abroad or nationally. But there are many places I’d love to see.
Technical Support Administrator
My life would be a great example in describing the term “Going with the flow”.
I say this because even though I have had an interest in computers since my primary school days, it wasn't my career path of choice until recently.
Key points in my computing life are as follows:
- Being introduced to games such as F15, SimCity 2000, Iron Eagle and a really old Worms like game on my fathers company 386 laptop, All in black and white.
- Playing NFS:2SE at my friends house. Many hours of my life are lost to that game... something I do not regret :D
- Discovering WinPopup in Windows NT at school, my first IM experience! That’s about the only thing High school computer classes taught me.
I have had quite a vast range of work experiences, ranging from the manual laboured casual, to monotonous data capturing,
to in-house as well as door to door sales, repair and support.
In between all that, I attempted studying a BSc in
Electronic Engineering and to my disappointment, it was not for me.I hold my head up high in the hope of some day receiving an honorary one!
Following that I decided to study in the direction my interests
were taking me. I enrolled with UNISA and began my Computer Science degree.Year of completion is pending.
Eventually,
I decided to look for a career rather than just another job. An advert on Gumtree caught my eye, and since then,
I have not looked back!
At AAT, I realise that there is quite a lot that I don’t know.
I have also discovered Team Building on
a large scale and subsequently found out that I cannot bowl. So far I’ve had good times, and there are many more to come !
Barrett has been with AAT since July 2008.
