A bit about Riaan Fresh out of the SADF in 1993 Riaan started looking for work, having a keen interest in graphics and design, he worked for an Interior Designer for about a year, doing interior house layouts and selling R20,000 chairs which he didn’t find very interesting or challenging.

He then moved to an Electronic Sign Writing company called American Signs, which formed part of a larger group of businesses. Working with a then "state of the art" 486 PC, doing everything from designing logos for race cars to 15 Meter road-side signs. They quickly became one of the leading sign writing companies in the Durban and surrounding areas. Working with a large number of clients such as Shell, Toyota and Transnet.

He worked there for five years learning everything he could about signs and logos and even designed many advertisement materials for major events such as the Margate Run and the Umchlanga Rocks Festivals. But when American Signs parent company underwent financial difficulties, it was decided to close the sign writing department.

He needed to find work and had to cancel his Internet Subscription with a small company called LIA Internet. After speaking to owner Rob Fisher and explaining his situation, he was quickly offered a position doing support calls and also designing banners and web pages. Since 1997 and many Christmas parties later, the company has grown, evolved and the name has changed, but the help and support he got from them have stayed the same.

Riaan is AAT's Design Team Leader.

Riaan has been with AAT since August 2001.
